Ora et Labora: The Heartbeat of Two Little Benedictines
A Journey of Faith, Family, and Formation at St. Scholastica’s Academy of Pampanga
Ora et Labora: The Heartbeat of Two Little Benedictines is an inspiring faith-centered book that follows the everyday experiences of siblings Lexis Dane P. Sanchez, 11, and Sophia Diane P. Sanchez, 7, as they grow in faith and character as students of St. Scholastica’s Academy of Pampanga, a Benedictine Catholic school. Through their experiences in the classroom, chapel, playground, family, and school community, the siblings discover that faith is not simply something to pray about—it is something to live through everyday actions.
At the heart of the book is the Benedictine principle Ora et Labora, commonly understood as “Pray and Work.” For Lexis and Sophia, the principle becomes a way of understanding school, family life, friendship, learning, service, and personal growth. Their journey demonstrates how prayer and work can become intertwined in ordinary moments: beginning the school day with prayer, studying diligently, helping others, expressing gratitude, forgiving mistakes, and choosing kindness even when it is difficult.
Rather than presenting religious formation as something confined to formal lessons, the book portrays it through the eyes of two young learners. Their voices make the story accessible to children while also offering parents, teachers, and families opportunities to reflect on how values are developed through daily experiences.
