Co-Workers in the Vineyard

Lay Liturgical Ministry in the Philippine Church

Co-Workers in the Vineyard is a theological, pastoral, and contextual reflection on the important role of the lay faithful in the liturgical life of the Catholic Church in the Philippines.

Grounded in the Church's understanding of Baptism, the common priesthood of the faithful, the Second Vatican Council, and the lived experience of Filipino Catholic communities, the book explores a fundamental conviction: lay people are not merely substitutes for priests or volunteers filling vacant roles. They are baptized members of the People of God who are called to participate actively in the Church's worship, mission, and life.

The book's title draws upon the biblical image of the Church as a vineyard in which different people labor together. Its chapters examine the many individuals whose often-unseen service sustains parish worship—from lectors and catechists to extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, musicians, altar servers, sacristans, greeters, collectors, liturgical environment ministers, media ministers, and women serving in diverse forms of ecclesial ministry.
