Chronicle in Rome: A 37-Day Journey of Formation

By Rev. Fr. Jesus B. Layug, Jr.

Chronicle in Rome: A 37-Day Journey of Formation is a reflective spiritual memoir that transforms a 37-day stay in Rome into a story of prayer, priestly formation, fraternity, learning, pastoral encounter, and grace. Written by Rev. Fr. Jesus B. Layug, Jr., the book grew out of his participation in the 29th International Course for Seminary Formators in July 2019 at the Pontificio Internazionale Maria Mater Ecclesiae.

Rather than functioning as a travel guide or theological textbook, the book invites readers to accompany the author day by day as he experiences Rome not simply as a historic city but as a place of spiritual encounter. Early-morning prayer, lectures, workshops, sacred places, meals with fellow priests, conversations, moments of fatigue, memories, and unexpected acts of kindness all become occasions for reflection.

The result is a book about a journey that takes place in two directions: the journey through Rome and the journey within the heart.
