Called at Dusk: A Story of Vocation and Hope

By Fr. Jesus B. Layug, Jr.

Called at Dusk: A Story of Vocation and Hope is a deeply personal spiritual memoir that traces twenty-five years of priestly ministry through memories of childhood, family, seminary formation, ordination, pastoral service, further studies, loss, uncertainty, and renewed faith. Published by ETCOR Educational Research Center in 2026, the book presents vocation not as a single moment of certainty but as a lifelong journey of listening, surrender, service, and trust.

Fr. Jesus “Jess” Layug, Jr., a priest of the Archdiocese of San Fernando, Pampanga, was ordained on November 10, 2001, after completing his seminary formation at Mother of Good Counsel Seminary. He later earned a Licentiate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and served in parish ministry, seminary formation, and the Archdiocesan Bible Apostolate.

Rather than presenting priesthood as a story of uninterrupted certainty or achievement, the book offers an honest account of a vocation shaped by poverty and perseverance, fear and longing, grief and consolation, weakness and grace.
